Political Influence on English Language in Malaysia

Our presentation is based on Political Influence on English Language in Malaysia. Education system in Malaysia most influenced by the politic itself. Different individual who lead the ministry, he will change and come out with the new changes. It doesn’t mean the changes are not good, but it must be practical with the situation and capability that can runs it at that time. If all the changes just wanted to showing off the power, at last the students will become the victims.

In my personal opinion, the implementation of PPSMI should be carrying on. Our batch was the first batch undergoes this implementation. Based on my experience, the benefits that I get are; I can enhance my vocabulary, training myself to speak confidently in English, also to read books written in English. But it was different nowadays. To be frank, I rarely speak in English except during the English’s presentation class. As a result, this affects my fluency to speak in English. I’m quite jealous when my lecturer praises some of my friends during the presentation. I realized it was my own fault too. Taking for granted this aspect. But for sure, I need the booster too. I must take the first step to improve myself because I will undergo the practicum to teach English for the next year. I must show the best and the right concept to my students later.

My hope is for the Ministry of Education, for any changes and new implementation in the future, a proper research and survey should be conducted for every range of community including the parents, teachers, retired teacher and education expertise, also non government organization (NGO) so that we can view the opinion and response from all range of community regarding the issue. We should practice the democratic way and find the best solution that can satisfy everybody, to get the win-win situation. At the same time, the solution will not become “one size fits all”.
